William’s Landing is a special place in winter. The snow is so white and the sky so blue it hurts your eyes. Moms, dads, grandads and grandmas pitch in to clear a rink on Kashagawigamog Lake. Kids play pick-up games of hockey using boots as goalposts. Voyageurs snowshoe along the waterfront trail. Folks head out onto the lake to auger a hole in the ice and drop a line for fish.
Deer wander like ghosts on the snow-covered road into William’s Landing. Kids scream as they toboggan down hills, impervious to the cold. As the sun sets turning the Haliburton hills pink and purple, it’s time for hot chocolate and a glass of wine by the gas fireplace in the cottage. At night, stars twinkle in the cold, black winter sky, while snowmobiles race across the frozen lake, their lights tracing crazy patterns.
